Product details

Build a defensible, repeatable medical coding audit workflow in Excel—without macros, hidden calculations, or a stack of disconnected static checklists.

The BrightArtConcepts Medical Coding Audit Workbench is a serious, auto-calculating workbook for coding auditors, coding managers, compliance professionals, practice leaders, and independent auditors. It connects project setup, sample selection, encounter review, code-line comparison, findings, corrective actions, education, re-audits, scorecards, and executive reporting in one transparent system.

WHAT THIS WORKBOOK HELPS YOU DO • Set up internal, external, pre-bill, post-bill, focused, random, and re-audit projects • Track a non-PHI audit sample with included, excluded, replacement, and pending records • Compare billed and auditor-supported diagnosis, procedure, HCPCS, and modifier values • Distinguish completed code deletions from unfinished reviews and derive encounter coding status from linked code lines • Classify overcoding, undercoding, incorrect coding, documentation insufficiency, policy concerns, and process issues • Keep coding accuracy, documentation support, policy/compliance concerns, and financial impact separate • Calculate encounter accuracy and code-opportunity agreement with visible numerators and denominators • Estimate potential overpayment, potential underpayment, gross variance, and net direction • Create provider and coder scorecards with low-volume cautions • Analyze finding categories, severity, root cause, and configured risk points • Assign corrective actions, education, owners, due dates, and effectiveness measures • Track planned and completed re-audits • Produce an executive dashboard and printable findings report • Run visible linkage, required-field, date, and reconciliation checks before reporting

17 LINKED TABS

START_HERE, PROJECTS, SAMPLE_LOG, ENCOUNTERS, CODE_LINES, FINDINGS, ACTIONS, REAUDITS, DASHBOARD, SCORECARDS, FINDINGS_REPORT, SETTINGS, METRIC_GUIDE, QA_CHECKS, WORKED_EXAMPLES, SOURCES_LICENSES, and CHANGE_LOG. DESIGNED FOR PROFESSIONAL JUDGMENT

Every key calculation is visible and auditable. Rates identify their numerator and denominator. Pending, not assessed, excluded, reversed, and education-only records do not silently count as correct or as confirmed errors. The workbook also shows a clear low-volume caution when a provider or coder denominator is below your configured minimum. Focused and convenience samples are not presented as representative of an entire population.

CUSTOMIZABLE

Edit providers, coders, auditors, payers, specialties, finding categories, root causes, severities, severity weights, action types, statuses, accuracy targets, minimum scorecard volume, high-risk thresholds, report labels, and currency.

Yellow cells are intended for buyer input. Blue cells contain formulas. The workbook includes worked fictional data so you can see how the workflow and metrics reconcile before replacing the examples.
